Charlie Baribeau’s memorial service Thursday, July 27th, 2023
Here is a recap of the day in case you missed it.
Charlie Baribeau was well known in our community as a caring pharmacist and long-time Virginia Minnesota City Council member. His memorial service was hosted at Rockwell Church where he and his wife had been attending since 2021. Members of the Virginia fire department honored Charlie’s memory by parking their fire trucks along the highway side of the church parking lot and lining up outside the entrance door to welcome people. Charlie’s military service was recognized by a full honor guard ceremony. Many memories were shared by family and friends. Charlie loved life and being involved with the city council, supporting education on the Iron Range, being involved in church, enjoying the outdoors, and family. Charlie will be missed by so many. We are excited about his future.
Many came to the visitation from 9:30am-11am to encourage his family. The church sanctuary and fellowship hall were filled for the 11am memorial service and noon lunch that followed. Pastor Chris Teien shared an 18-minute message fitting for a former pharmacist, “A Prescription for Eternal Life.”

“The City of Virginia expresses its sincere condolences to the family of our former City Councillor and friend, Charlie Baribeau.
Charles (Charlie) Baribeau, a lifelong resident of Virginia and public servant passed away on Monday, July 3 after a courageous battle with a debilitating disease. For more than three decades Charlie dedicated his life to public service as a city councilor, vice-mayor, serving on commissions and committees as a member and committee chair for the City of Virginia.
A strong advocate for the health, safety, security, and core services to all citizens of Virginia, Charlie was tenacious and unrelenting. He had a vibrant personality, evidenced by his passionate participation at meetings and events. He loved this City and made it known to everyone that Virginia was his home and would always be. He was an honest and ethical representative and beneath that rough exterior was a very kind and generous person. He believed in freedom and opportunity for all.
We will miss him deeply.”
